After the Ole Miss 2 and 10 season in 2011, Rebel fans were ready for a change for sure! I mean who wants to get all dressed up for tailgating and football watching at the Grove for your team to just get destroyed? That’s embarrassing and not acceptable in the SEC!
On December 5, 2011, Hugh Freeze was announced as the new head coach of the Ole Miss Rebels football team. Is this a dream come true? Well it was for Freeze, being a native of Mississippi! Many Rebel fans are not excited about this hire. A big name is what fans wanted. Well let me tell you what my mama always told me, “Sometimes you don’t get what you want, you get what you need”.
The first time I heard Coach Freeze speak was at the Little Rock Touchdown Club luncheon on November, 9, 2010 in Little Rock, AR. He was the Offensive Coordinator for Arkansas State University Red Wolves football team at the time and when he spoke, you were inspired and motivated. He emphasized on attitude and focus. Seriously, by the end of the luncheon, I wanted to run some laps! Later that same day, Arkansas State’s Head Coach Steve Roberts resigned and the first thing that came to my mind was that Freeze needed to take over that position. On December 2, 2010, Hugh Freeze was announced as the new head coach of the Arkansas State University Red Wolves football team. Freeze coached an overall 4 and 8 2010 team to an overall 10 and 2L team in 2011. I am 100% confident that his players developed a “We Can Do This” attitude and DID IT!
College Football fans, I promise you that Ole Miss will be the team to watch grow the next three years. Ole Miss Fans, I promise you that Coach Freeze will make you proud again to put on your Tailgatin’ Finest and toast your Hotty Toddies to a good season! Manning Family, I promise you won’t have to make anymore phone calls to Ole Miss anymore! Finally, Rebel Bear, you won’t be blamed anymore for jinxing the season.
