Well I have to admit that it has come sooner than I expected. I thought all the fear of loss revenue would stall this discussion from moving to action… BUT IT DID! After many years of debate, college football will get it’s post season playoff starting in the 2014-2015 season.
So it looks like the new 4 team playoff format (under a 12 year period) will have the two national semifinal games rotate among six major bowls, probably will include the four current BCS games: Fiesta, Orange, Rose and Sugar bowls, but those have not been determined 100% yet. The national championship game would be played approximately 10 days after the semifinals at a neutral site that would be up for bid the same way the NFL rotates its Super Bowl.
How will these 4 teams be selected, you ask? Well much like the ncaa basketball tournament, a selection committee will be formed to determine the 4 teams in the playoffs, with conference championship winners and strength of schedule being a strong determining factor, but no conference will automatically qualify one of its teams.
Will this make everyone happy? You will never make 100% of people happy, 100% of the time. BUT 80% AIN’T BAD!
